Our story
Ascendant Softworks was founded by Diane Goodman in Glen Allen, Virginia with a clear mission: to be the software partner that founders and operators recommend to their friends. After watching too many businesses get stuck in long, expensive, and opaque agency engagements, Diane assembled a team of senior engineers committed to a different model — small teams, real partnership, transparent communication, and meaningful outcomes measured in weeks rather than years.
Today, Ascendant Softworks serves clients across the United States, ranging from regional service businesses modernizing legacy operations to venture-backed startups building category-defining products. Whatever the size of the engagement, our promise is the same: senior people, honest pricing, and software that actually works.
We are deliberately a boutique team. We do not have hundreds of consultants on the bench, and we never will. That allows us to take on a small number of engagements at a time and give each one the attention it deserves.

Before founding Ascendant Softworks, she held senior engineering and product leadership roles where she shipped platforms used by millions of customers and managed multi-million-dollar engineering budgets.
She founded Ascendant Softworks in Glen Allen, Virginia to give business owners a refreshingly direct alternative to traditional agencies — one where the founder still answers her own email and every engagement is run with the rigor of a senior product team.

Most projects fall between $25,000 and $250,000 in total budget. We are happy to scope smaller proofs-of-concept and larger multi-quarter platform builds when the fit is right.
Our core focus is U.S.-based businesses, but we do take on select international engagements when timezones align and the project is a strong fit for our team.
You do. Every engagement includes full intellectual property transfer, and you receive complete source code, documentation, and infrastructure access.
Absolutely. We regularly inherit codebases from previous teams. Engagements typically begin with a paid technical audit so we can give you a clear picture before committing to anything larger.
We sign mutual NDAs at the very first conversation if you prefer. All client data, code, and strategy stays strictly confidential — and we treat it the same way long after the engagement ends.
